The decision to get and stay fit can transform your life.  I truly believe everyone should have the opportunity to live a full, happy and long healthy life!  I am a Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor from the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and the Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA).  I also hold a

I also hold an advanced certification as a Senior Fitness Specialist (SFS) and as a Functional Aging Fitness Specialist (FAFS).  I offer fitness programs to improve and strengthen your body, balance and brain health.  My goal is to empower my clients to get in their best shape and feel great, regardless of their age, size or fitness level.

Recently, I was selected to the Best of Boston A-List , Top 5 Personal Trainers.  As the only trainer recognized over the age of 40, I am especially proud of this award.  The fact is our bodies change as we age.  I design functional, unique and effective exercise programs specific to your needs and goals.  I primarily focus on strength training, balance, posture, stamina, flexibility and to improve overall health.  Additionally, I have  developed specific programs to improve balance and help correct posture.

I offer group classes, in-home and on-site training in Boston.  Running is something I enjoy, having competed in over 30 races including full and half marathons.  I live in Beacon Hill with my husband and sporty, yet girlie, 16 year old daughter. I have a Bachelors in Human Development and Psychology, and I am certified in First Aid and CPR/AED.  I am a member of the American Council on Exercise, The Athletics and Fitness Association of America, the Senior Fitness Association of America, Functional Aging Institute, The Women in Fitness Association,  IDEA Health & Fitness Association, The Beacon Hill Womens Forum and Beacon Hill Civic Association.  My recent specialized training includes Fall Prevention for Older Adults, Periodized Weight Training for Women, The Link Between Nutrition, Hormones and Strength Training, Functional Aging Specialization, Exercise Selection Based on Movement Screening, Nutrition Based Personal Training, Functional Circuits for Aging Adults, and Sunrise Yoga.

It is my hope to empower clients on their own personal journey to fitness, health and well being. I look forward to speaking with you about how we can fulfill your fitness goals!

By my late 20's I was fifty pounds overweight, a smoker and so depressed I couldn't get out of bed. Then I discovered aerobics and it changed my life. I turned my enthusiasm for exercise into a part-time job as a group exercise instructor, and I’ve been teaching in gyms in Greater Boston for almost thirty years. After wrapping up my career in public relations, I went to school to become a personal trainer, and I’m loving every minute of my “second act.”

Examples of Client Success

Most of my clients are over 60. Some have been active for many years; others are new to exercise. All have the same overarching goal: to move with ease and confidence and to enjoy activities with family and friends.

A year ago “Bill” adopted a healthy diet and started working out with me three times a week. He lost 102 pounds and now swims regularly, and enjoys kayaking and hiking with his wife. “Joan’s” stomach cancer and spine surgery left her weak and frail. Working out twice a week, she built the strength and stamina needed for walking tour vacations with her daughter. “Carlo” spends long hours sitting at a desk and on airplanes and suffered chronic low back pain. With regular workouts focused on core strength and flexibility, his back pain is gone. “Kathleen” had her thyroid removed, and struggled with fatigue and weight gain. Three sessions a week of resistance and cardio training helped shed the pounds and increase her energy.

My personal health and fitness journey started later than many; as a kid, I was the strong student, my nose always in a book, who did everything possible to avoid gym class in high school.  So nobody was more surprised than I was to stumble upon an inner athlete when I began exercising consistently in my early 30s.  I went from being a group fitness participant to an instructor in just a couple of years and discovered a new facet of my identity.

In my group exercise classes, I get a charge out of pushing members to a new level, finding they can do more, go harder, or have more fun than they originally thought.  I’ve been teaching for over a decade and I still love engaging with people and creating a shared, motivating experience.

Wanting to expand my knowledge and increase my opportunity to connect more deeply on an individual level, I became a National Academy of Sport Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Trainer.  In my work with clients, I get to build relationships and together achieve their goals; I’m their partner, providing insight or answers to questions, along with encouragement and support.  My clients determine what they want to achieve, what “success” in health, wellness and fitness looks like to them, and I help them get there.

As time passes and I see people all around me redefining what “older” can look, feel, and act like, it’s so clear to me that being active is key to living longer and better.  I love working with clients who want to improve or maintain mobility, strength, and/or flexibility so they can keep doing the activities they enjoy that keep them feeling vital and engaged.  To that end, I hold certifications in Active Aging and Foam Rolling from SCW.

Whatever it is that you want to do or achieve – play with grandchildren, keep up with teenagers or the dog, take walking tours when you travel, get on and off the excursion dinghy on your next cruise, tackle a new challenge like a race or a serious hike – I want that for you and will draw on all of my skills to help you achieve it.  And when you do, I’ll be so thrilled and excited for you.

Additional certifications: CPR/AED, Les Mills BodyPump, MOSSA Group Blast, Group Kick, Group Power & Group Ride.
